What travel hydration actually has to do
Airplane cabins are dry. Humidity often sits well under 20%. You lose fluid through breath and dry air, not just sweat. Plain water helps. It does not replace sodium, potassium, or the other pieces travel also hits: immune load in shared air, gut changes, and the wired-tired feeling after a long day.
That is the category: travel hydration, not gym hydration.
The main formats
- Stick packs: powder in a single-serve packet. TSA-friendly. Mix in 12–16 oz of water. Easy in a seat or a hostel.
- Tablets: drop in a bottle. Less mess for some people. Slower to dissolve, not built as a “rip and go” packet.
- High-sodium athletic mixes:made for heavy sweat, not cabin air. Fine after a hot hike. Often more salt than a regular flyer needs.
- Everyday electrolyte drinks: built for taste and volume. Many use sugar to speed absorption. Fine for some. Not what I wanted on a plane.
What the big names are built for
These are not bad products. They are built for a different job.
- Liquid I.V. The default stick people know. Easy to find. Built around hydration and taste. Many versions include sugar. Not designed as hydration + immune + gut in one travel packet.
- Nuun tablet. Convenient if you already carry a bottle. Minerals, not a full travel-support formula.
- DripDrop closer to a medical-style rehydration mix. Fast fluid replacement. Some formulas include sugar.
- LMNT no sugar, high sodium. Made for sweat and low-carb diets. A lot of salt for a seated flight.
What PreFlite is
PreFlite is a travel stick. One packet. Mix with water.
It is built for dry cabin air and long travel days:
- Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) for fluid balance
- Vitamin C and zinc for normal immune function in crowded spaces
- B vitamins for energy metabolism
- 100 mg L-theanine for calm focus without caffeine
- Inulin (prebiotic) for gut support when sleep and food go sideways
- 0g sugar. No caffeine. TSA-friendly powder.
Use: rip, mix into 12–16 oz of water, drink before / during / after the flight or the long day.
What PreFlite is not
- Not a sports drink for a 90-minute tempo run
- Not a high-sodium sweat replacement like LMNT
- Not a sugar-based hydration multiplier
- Not a tablet
- Not a cure for a cold, altitude sickness, or jet lag
- Not only for flights , I use it on trail days and early mornings too
A simple way to choose
Ask three questions:
- Do I want zero sugar in the seat?
- Do I want one stick that also covers immune and gut support, or only salt and water?
- Do I need TSA-easy powder, or am I fine with a tablet in a bottle?
If the answer is no sugar, one stick, travel-specific — that is why PreFlite exists.
How I use it
One stick in 12–16 oz of water before boarding or at the start of a long day. Another if the day stacks (second flight, altitude, long transfer). I formulated it because I was mixing drugstore vitamins and electrolytes for years and hated the sugar and the two products.
Travel protected.
